A well earned break.

Some of you who follow me on facebook will already know, but I figured I had better let everyone know I'll be away next week and won't be following my usual schedule.

Life has provided a generous helping of little stresses recently, so I'm going to take some much needed time off and just relax, spend time with my family, my boyfriend and my kidlets, and come back to you all re-energised in a week.
In other news, yesterday I signed up and paid to do Tough Mudder in September! For those of you who have no idea what that is, go check it out at www.toughmudder.com.au
I've got 7 months of healthy eating, cardio training for fitness and strength training to get me through the obstacles ahead of me, but I'm really excited and really looking forward to it. I'll keep you guys updated with my training progress as I go. I'll also keep you updated with the changes in my body as I attempt to turn it from a jelly-bellied mum body into a lean, mean obstacle hurdling machine.

The pics above were taken 22nd Feb 2013, the day that I signed up for the Mudder.

Wish me luck!

Bellabox February 2013 Review.

The last couple of months have been a little bit disappointing with bellabox, so I was pleased to find that this month I got the "best" box. All in all, I'm pleased with what I received. With the nail polish in full size, and priced at $14.95, I basically paid for it and got everything else for free.

Trendsday: Bold lips!

This season there's a great trend of bold lips! I am personally LOVING all the amazing new shades that we're seeing out and about.

The thing to remember about wearing a bold lip is not to go overboard with the eye makeup. You don't want to end up looking like a clown or an '80s throwback.

Here are a few examples from my personal collection.

How about you? Do you love the bold lip trend? Would you/do you wear it?

BARGAINS! Another awesome DCC haul!

And it's all eyeshadow this time!

There have been some really great deals lately from Dollar Cosmetics club, and I've been particularly interested in picking up some great quality eyeshadows in particular, for very little cost.

For those of you who haven't read my other posts about Dollar Cosmetic Club and Cosmetic Corner, they are basically a very cheap way to purchase quality cosmetics. Sometimes, they are really high end brands for as little as $1.
Take for example, this Lancome eyeshadow quad.

This is a very high end brand, in good, relevant colours, for the very affordable price of $1! I got two of these, and gave one to my mother, who was very grateful, and including the $5 shipping charge, they set me back a whopping $7. Total. Exactly the same deal was had on the L'Oreal Project Runway quads pictured above. Those ones I received in two different colours, which is always a good thing, but not always a guaranteed thing. You don't get to choose your colours, but I've never had a product from DCC that I couldn't use, or that I thought was really awful.

Last of all, there's my bargain buy from their other company, Cosmetic Corner. They have a store online where you can buy what you want from several high end and pharmacy brands at really affordable prices (like my Elizabeth Arden Eyeshadow quad, for example). I picked up these two MAC eyeshadows for about half the usual cost in store, and I chose my colours from what they had in stock. I plan to do a makeup look based around these colours next week, so stay tuned for that one.

They also have some really super cheap makeup packs on offer at Cosmetic Corner. Well worth a look.

An innovative approach to liquid liner from Australis!

Written with the Curve Ink Eyeliner.
Are you a beauty noob, too scared to attempt liquid liner? Are you a beauty professional, looking for an easier way to apply liquid liner, with a smooth and precise application method? Are you anywhere on the spectrum in between?

THIS PRODUCT IS FOR YOU.

This very recently released, awesome new, innovative product is Australis' brand new Curve Ink Eyeliner. And it's truly amazing.

You guys know I'm usually quite upbeat about products that I review, but I have never gone completely ga-ga over a product like this before.

I'm a regular liquid liner user, and I always get the feathery line where it gets stuck on my lashes or goes slightly off course. When I tried this one out, all I got was a line that went and stayed exactly where I put it.

Here's how it works:

The ergonomic design of the liner means that it fits perfectly into your "drawing" grip. This makes it instantly easier to control. It does require a little brain re-training if you're used to using a brush, but instantly it was easier to use.

The only thing I haven't shown here is the felt-tip that it has. It's a longer-style felt tip, with a perfect precision application every single time.

It's quick drying, smudge proof, long lasting and waterproof, yet removes very easily with makeup wipes. It's suitable for left or right hand application, is paraben free, and formaldehyde free.

Australis are 100% aussie, all of their products are under $20, and they don't test on animals! This liner in particular is $14.95. An absolute steal, for the amazing product that you get.

As far as I know, it's only available in black.

Here are the results that I achieved, my very first time using it.

It's so precise!

Right now when you shop online at www.australiscosmetics.com.au you get free shipping on orders over $50, AND a free mint condition lip gloss, valued at $8.95 with every online order (as at february, 2013. If you're reading this after February 2013, things may have changed on their site).

You can also find this little gem at Priceline (online only) at www.priceline.com.au

Product available week commencing 18 February, 2013

Here's a superquick tutorial I filmed for you guys:

Full Disclosure; the awesome people at Australis sent me this product for my consideration and review. They provided the product free of charge. My opinions, of course, as always, are completely my own.

A supercute surprise arrived in the mail today, and I just know that you guys are going to love it!

Hello Kitty Cosmetics have just released a brand new range of scented and flavoured lip balms in 7 gorgeous flavours!

They're even cute shapes, with some of them heart-shaped and some flower-shaped. The scents and the flavours are all absolutely delicious, with something for every taste.

There's Blackberry Smoothie, Sweet Apricot, Sweet Candy, Creamy Vanilla, Strawberry Ice Cream, Yummy Raspberry, and Milky coconut.

My favourite scent is the Blackberry Smoothie.

The lip balm leaves your lips super soft and smooth, and will keep your lips well conditioned right through the fluctuating weather of the season change.
Available at Priceline for just $5.95 each, Hello Kitty Sweet Lips are a must for everyone!

Full Disclosure: Hello Kitty sent me these products for my consideration and review. They were provided free of charge. My opinions, of course, as always, are my own.

Warm up your look as the weather cools down with Natio!

With summer waning here in Australia, it's time to start thinking ahead to our winter looks and products that we can use to warm up our look over the cooler months to come.

Cue Natio Mineral Pressed Powder Bronzer, a gorgeous bronzer with a few health benefits for your skin to boot!

Bronzer is a great way to highlight your facial features and brighten your complexion, so it works really well to make you feel a bit better as the cold weather sets in, helps you to feel a little warmer, and puts a healthy glow in your cheeks.

With the trend of metallics on the runway this season, this bronzer is a fantastic addition to any collection, with its gold reflective pigment giving a metallic shimmer. (You can see it here, swatched on my (white and veiny) arm for maximum effect of the gold colour. I've swatched it very thickly, using my fingers, because I wanted to show the colour that can be achieved with it. Used in the traditional way, it's a very light coverage, and not muddy at all.) I'd also like to see it used as an eyeshadow, in a thicker concentration. The texture of the powder is so buttery soft, very similar to my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette.

The powder itself is formulated with vitamins C and E to smooth and rejuvenate the skin, and Jojoba to soften and moisturise. It really is a wonder product.

Last of all, the packaging, which is so great! It's a huge compact, really glamorous in its styling. The mirror inside the lid is a fantastic size, and doesn't distort the reflected image at all. The sleek black design of the outer compact is very classy.

Natio products are Australian made, and not tested on animals.,

Available from Myer and David Jones, as well as selected pharmacies for $19.95, this one's definitely a must-have for your makeup collection.

Full Disclosure: Natio sent me this product for my consideration and review. It was sent free of charge. My opinions, of course, as always, are my own.

Review Thursday: A little treat from Montagne Jeunesse

When I received my very first  Valentines Day card for this year, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had come with a little treat inside, and it was from the awesome people at Montagne Jeunesse!

Inside I found a pink lollipop in the shape of a heart, which was yummy and just what I needed, but also right up there on the list of "things I need" for that day was the other surprise that i found inside - a sample of their "Peel off passion" face mask!

It's a clear gel mask, which you put on your skin and allow to dry until you're able to peel it off, which has always kind of grossed me out, but the results really make up for the gross "peeled-off-skin" you have to throw in the bin when you're done.

The scent of this product is divine. Fruity and not overpowering, it was definitely a product I was happy to put on my face.

I just sat down to relax for about 10 minutes, then I peeled the mask off carefully (it's always a good idea to avoid your eyebrows when you use this type of mask!) and I was done!

Here are the results, and what the mask looks like on the skin. I really liked it, and I'll be on the lookout for more Montagne Jeunesse products when I'm out and about. You can find them at Priceline, Target, Kmart, Big W, Coles, Woolworths and selected Pharmacies for $3.95 each.

Trendsday: Contouring.

Lately, there's a big trend towards using highlighting and contouring to completely change the perception of your face shape.
Personally, I like it. I love that I can adjust the shape of my nose depending on the kind of contouring I want to do, or that i can make my face appear slimmer instantly using really simple techniques.

Kim Kardashian is pretty much the queen of contouring. She uses mega highlighting and contouring with different shades of concealer under her base to create the look that she's famous for.

Here's a diagram of the areas that Kim highlights and contours, and it's a pretty good guide for anyone wanting to do a bit of facial sculpting without going under the knife.

You can use a very light and a very dark concealer under your base, or you can go with powders (a highlighter and a bronzer) over the top of your makeup. Go easy on the powder, though. It's easy to add more colour, very difficult to take it away once it's on there.

Give it a go and see what you think. Contouring isn't for everyone, but it's fun to try out, or to use for a special occasion if you don't like to spend a lot of time on your everyday look.

Brighter days are coming! Eye brightening tips.

As the mother of two young boys, I often wake up looking a little worse for wear. Dark circles are a major identifying marker in my family, and I'm quite lucky not to have "the Body bags" as a regular feature of my face. However, if I'm overtired, or if I've had a rough night, they start to show themselves, and it's not a situation I'm happy with.

So what do I do about it? I kill those under-eye bags quicksmart with Benefit's Ooh La Lift!

In my picture here, you can see that I have dots around my entire eye area. The dots underneath the eyes are Ooh La Lift, and the ones above are eyeshadow primer (Stay don't stray), so we're focusing on the product under the eye for now.

It goes on a lot like a creamier version of a highlighter, and once you pat and blend it into the skin, it really does make dark circles vanish!
It contains raspberry extracts and light reflecting pigments to instantly perk up your tired-looking eyes.

One more tip for dark circles or eyes that need refreshing: Keep your Ooh La Lift in the fridge! It'll give you an instant soothing, calming burst of cool.

Available from Benefit boutique, located in selected Myer stores nationally.

Monday How-to: Something a little different

This week, I was asked to do a video about how to re-lace a corset, as a friend had accidentally pulled out her laces.
With the new trend of corsets as fashion-wear, I decided to do it via the KBS youtube channel, and create a blog post about it for you guys.

So here it is: How to re-lace a corset for waist reduction/hourglass shape.

Scrub-a-dub-dub with endota spa.

Earlier this week, I told you about the awesome Instagram competition that endota spa are running at the moment, with a fantastic prize valued at $500.

While I was talking to them about the competition, and my post about it, we got to talking about some of their amazing skin care products to take home, and today I received in the mail this gorgeous lemon and organic sugar scrub!

First of all, it smells absolutely heavenly. The sweet citrus classic bush scent is absolutely delicious, and I couldn't wait to try it out.

The sugar texture is quite refined. It's not chunky at all, which makes the scrub really easy to use, and a little goes a long way.

The liquid component has an oily, almost waxy feel to it, which lingers after you rinse it off, so if you don't like that feeling (I'm touching the skin on my shoulder now, 10 hours later, and it's still smooth and silky to feel), I'd suggest a body wash of some sort after you've scrubbed.

I definitely like how smooth and polished my skin looks and feels since I used this scrub, and there is definitely a hint of citrus scent left on my skin even after a long, hot day.

In keeping with the endot-adventure theme, I thought I'd get some photos of the product out in the wild (my lawn) for you, as an example of how easily you could create your own endot-adventure! Don't forget when you post your pics on Instagram to use @endotaspa and #endotadventure in the description to enter the contest.

Also stay tuned to my YouTube channel for a quick tutorial on how to use a body scrub, featuring endota lemon and organic sugar scrub!

You can pick one up for yourself at www.endotadayspa.com.au

Ponderings on beauty and how things have changed.

Today is my 32nd birthday, and I've been thinking a lot about my own beauty trends over the years, and how they have changed. How the concept of beauty has changed for me over the years, and how I can help to pass on healthy and achievable beauty-image philosophies to my family and the younger generation.

Most of you know that I have 2 sons. They don't have much interest in the beauty world, so I'm probably not going to need to pass on a lot of knowledge to them in that regard, except to teach them that sometimes girls need to spend an hour in the bathroom to look as pretty as they possibly can, and that if they are the beneficiary of that effort, they should take the time to really appreciate it.

I also have a nephew, who I'll probably get around to teaching the same thing about girls and their bathroom time. Then there's my niece. She's already beautiful. She's got these gorgeous almond-shaped eyes and lovely skin, and I'm sure she got all of the best things from both sides of the family in that regard, so all I want to teach her when she gets old enough to learn about beauty and makeup and skincare (and she'll learn most of it from her mum, who is also gorgeous) is to be thankful for the good things she got. I, for example, am extremely grateful for my skin. I'm 32, I have very few wrinkles, rarely do I ever break out or have blemishes that are difficult to resolve. I'm very lucky to have nice skin. I am also grateful for these massive eyes that are so much fun to make up. i'm lucky, I have pretty eyes and I have learned great makeup techniques to make them really pop.

I really think that's the best thing that we can hand on to our children, or the children in our lives. Find a little love for everything you are, and don't worry about what you're not. Your beauty shines a little brighter when you stop worrying about flaws and shortcomings.

Review Thursday! January 2013 Lust Have It box!

Today, I received my first ever Lust Have It sample box, and boy, am I impressed!
With three full sized items (total value of $59.85) making this box worth 4 times what I paid for it, PLUS 3 skincare samples of a decent size, PLUS a high end, relevant sample of a decent size (sunblock), PLUS shampoo and conditioner samples (how did they know I'm completely out of shampoo and didn't get to the shops today???), I am very, very happy with it.

So, what's inside?

First, I should mention that it arrived in an absolutely gorgeous pink box, which I'll definitely repurpose for little knick-knacks in my bedroom. So cute.

1. Silk Oil of Morocco Moroccan Lip Gloss in "Bliss" (full size product) RRP $19.95
It's gorgeous. I can't say anything more fitting than that. More like a liquid lipstick than a gloss, it's pigmented, creamy, not sticky at all, and long-wearing. A winner for sure, and it arrived in my exact perfect pink shade.

2. Nude by nature BB 5 in 1 miracle cream.(full size product) RRP $19.95
Unfortunately, this came in "dark", so I'm not able to make it work for me, but my mum was -just- lamenting that the sample of BB cream that I gave her last month was a touch too light (it was "medium") so she is absolutely thrilled to try out this gorgeous product. I did swatch it on my arm and it felt lovely, providing a great coverage.

3. Lust Have It! Kabuki brush (full size product) RRP $19.95
This is the nicest kabuki brush I've seen, and I've seen a few. It's so lovely and soft, dense and so charming to look at. I can't wait to use it.

4. Ella Bache Great 50+ sportsbloc (sachet sample) Regular product 130ml RRP $44.00
It's great to see a sample of sunblock thrown in there in the middle of summer. I'm always on the lookout for a great new way to keep my skin nice and safe from the sun's harmful rays, and I felt this was a really well timed, relevant sample.

5. Klorane Shampoo and Conditioner (sachet samples) Regular products 200/150ml RRP $9.95
The fact that these are hypoallergenic is a big deal for me. My #1 trouble spot for eczema is behind my ears, so I do need to be careful what sort of products I use on my hair. Pomegranate, Mango butter, need i say more? Yum. can't wait to try these.

6. Avene Cleanance skin care range (decent sized bottle samples) Regular products from RRP $24.95
I've used Avene products before and they're gorgeous, so I'm really looking forward to trying this gel cleanser, cream exfoliant and anti-shine moisturiser.

All in all, very pleased with this month's offering from Lust Have It, and I've definitely got value for my $15.

Trendsday: Textured nail polish.

Last week, I showed you a sneak peek of OPI's new Great and Powerful Oz collection, and I touched on the awesomeness of their new Liquid Sand technology, which essentially leaves a texture on your nails like very fine sandpaper, with a matte finish.

As you can see in this first picture, the Liquid Sand polishes also have a kind of shimmer to them, making them truly unique and really awesome to look at.

These two colours are "Can't let go" and "Get your number" from the Mariah Carey collection that was recently released. They have chunks of glitter in them (of course!) and the Liquid Sand matte finish. I'm kind of in love with these Liquid Sand polishes. There isn't a bad shade, and there are lots to choose from, so you'll find a colour to match any outfit or occasion.

The next colour I've shown here is actually not done justice by the picture. The polish is an almost-sheer black with red glitter, and of course that awesome Liquid Sand matte finish. This polish is going to feature in my birthday OOTD video on Friday night (Which I'll post on Saturday for you guys), because it's the perfect accessory to my gorgeous black ruffle tunic from City Chic (which I'll be wearing as a gorgeous dress, all dressed up with some sexy shoes, it's perfect for summer special occasions!).

This is another colour from the Mariah Carey collection, called "Stay the night".

Last of all, we have the gorgeous bronzey-gold Liquid Sand polish from the Great and Powerful Oz collection called "What wizardry is this?". I've teamed it up for a funky geometric look with the nude from the same collection, called "Glints of Glinda".

I actually think this is my favourite "everyday wear" colour in their Liquid Sand polishes. It's got a shimmer, rather than a glitter, and it is just a really great allrounder colour, it goes with any outfit, so you can wear it all week to work before you let your hair down with one of the glitzier colours on the weekend. Definitely my pick of the bunch.

The last thing I want to tell you about this polish is that, unlike other glitter polishes, it's really easy to remove! I know a lot of you steer clear of glitters because they are so notoriously difficult to remove, but you need not be scared of this one.

So... what do you think of OPI's LiquidSand polishes? You can get some for yourself from leading salons and David Jones nationwide.

Full disclosure: The awesome people at OPI sent me these polishes to try out, but of course my opinions are always my own, and I was not paid for this review.

I know that I usually post my YouTube content on Saturdays, and you'll be getting another video on Saturday, but the only way to show you how to do your makeup in 5 minutes is to actually show you.

So here is today's how-to: 5 minute makeup, for when you literally only have 5 minutes to get ready and out the door.

Youtube Saturday! January Favourites & Empties.

Now that the new year has started, I'm really going to try to stick to my new schedule, and get a good routine happening, so that you guys know what to expect on each day, and I can have a bit of a working routine that I can stick to and keep myself organized.

So. today is Saturday and that means that I owe you a youtube video! I didn't have a lot of products that were new in January, so this favourites video is a mix of favourites and empty products that I used up in January.

I think the video pretty much speaks for itself, so here goes:

Lend a hand with Katy's Beauty Community.

I announced a couple of weeks ago that I was launching the beauty community, and here it is, my first post!

This month, I'm going to tell you all about the Look Good, Feel Better program.

Basically this program runs nationwide to assist people who are being treated for cancer in looking as good as they possibly can, and in turn feel better about themselves.

I'm going to include some information here that's straight from their website, to explain more about how they work, and what's involved, as well as how we can get involved too.

Look Good…Feel Better is a free community service that helps people undergoing cancer treatment to manage the appearance-related side-effects caused by their treatment.  We do this by providing free workshops for women, men and teens to help manage the appearance-related side effects that may be caused by cancer treatment.
The Australian cosmetic industry founded the Cancer Patients Foundation, a registered charity with tax deductible status, in 1990 as a way to bring the US-based Look Good…Feel Better program to Australia so the industry and the charity could support the many Australians who receive a diagnosis of cancer every year.
Since then our small team has worked with cosmetic industry leaders and volunteers to support women, men and teens all over the country.  In 2012 we reached a significant milestone when we welcomed the 100,000th participant to a Look good…Feel better workshop.
The cosmetic and beauty industries continue to provide significant support for the Cancer Patients Foundation and the Look Good…Feel Better program, including:
  • Funding for nearly 1,000 free workshops for cancer patients each year
  • More than $3 million worth of skin-care and make-up products needed for the 10,000 Confidence Kits used by workshop participants each year
  • Production of free program support materials, such as videos, patient brochures and self-help booklets.
The Look Good…Feel Better program is managed by the Cancer Patients Foundation’s small team of paid employees, with the fantastic support of 1,700 trained and certified cosmetic, beauty and hairdressing professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to help deliver workshops across Australia.
The program is available in every state and territory, and in over 175 workshop locations, including cancer centres, hospital oncology units, Cancer Council regional offices and other community-based venues.
A key feature of the program is its brand/product neutrality: for example, volunteers and program participants are not permitted to promote any cosmetic product line or manufacturer at any time during a workshop.
Workshops are held in most major hospitals and cancer care centres across Australia, as well as in community venues. They are conducted by specially trained and experienced beauty professionals who volunteer their time to help run the program and share their expertise with participants.
Participants (usually between 10 and 15 in a group) learn techniques to manage the appearance-related changes caused by cancer treatment. Demonstrations on the use of wigs, hats, turbans and scarves are also included.
The emphasis is on hands-on learning within a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Each participant receives a take-home instruction booklet and a complimentary Confidence Kit, full of skin-care and make-up products which have been generously donated by the Australian cosmetic industry.

So how can we get involved and help out? There are a few ways. We can donate directly, hold a fundraiser event, or even volunteer for the program if we have relevant beauty industry experience. To contact Look good...Feel better, you can start online at www.lgfb.org.au
In the month of February, I'm going to save every $1 coin that crosses my palm and donate all of it to Look good...Feel better at the end of the month. Every time I'm given a $1 coin in change, or if I find $1 coins in my car, even my "trolley dollar" that I keep for shopping trolleys. I'm going to donate them all (and I'll update this post with a picture of how many I collect at the end). Let me know if you'd like to join me! I won't be taking donations or raising funds from other people, but it's really easy to donate via their website, so we can all do it!
