Now I don't usually recommend sleeping in your makeup, but there are some circumstances under which you need to make a compromise with your skin and have a facial later to make up for it.

Here's some absolutely bombproof makeup recommendations, and a tutorial to show you how to apply them:

Uh oh! Looks like my makeup was done by a 3 year old!

Luckily, that actually is the case!

This week, here's a fun video for you guys to watch and have a giggle about.

Check it out here:

This week's pamper Wednesday is a bit themed towards Lush products, because I went shopping and got a bunch of treats for my bath.

I hope you enjoy!

Another haul for you!

I went over to Daiso in Box Hill on Saturday, so I wanted to show you guys what I got!

For the record, I tried the foot mask last night (and posted a pic on Instagram!) and it has left my feet really soft and smooth!

Check out the video to see everything I picked up at my favourite weird store where everything is $2.80!

Here's a thrift shop haul, because when I posted about it the other day, you guys wanted it!

Let me know if this kind of thing is something you'd like to see more of, or even kids' clothing hauls...? I seem to buy a lot more for them than I do for myself, and I'm always looking for a bargain.

I'll get some photos of these pieces as I wear them, and post them for you guys, so that you can get a better idea of what they look like.

Check out the video for what I got!

This week, women all across the UK have been taking bare-faced selfies and donating 3 pounds via their phone provider to breast cancer research.

They've raised over 2 million pounds for the cause, which is bloody amazing. This is the power of viral marketing. And they all look beautiful without their makeup on.

With that all said, I've seen women from my country (Australia) doing it too. Posting the selfie and nominating others... and SOME of them have mentioned breast cancer, but mostly it's just for the game of it, and really, we all know that breast cancer exists, so posting "yay selfie because breast cancer" doesn't do squat for awareness.

Fear not, dear readers, this isn't just a bitch session post. I want to do something about it.

I don't have the means to begin a national fundraiser, but I do have about 5,000 of you every month checking out my blog, and that could make for the beginnings of our very own viral awareness campaign...if we all do it and share the reasons why.

Here's what I want you to do:

We're going to raise awareness for breast cancer, so I want the posts to be informative. Most women forget to check out their boobs as often as they should, or they're embarrassed about it, or for some reason, they don't want to. Here's the big fact about breast cancer. Your best chance to avoid a death sentence is early detection. We need to be checking our breasts for changes in appearance (by looking for lumps, AND for changes in the skin, like wrinkly patches or loose skin, AND for nipple changes, such as discharge or inversion) every month. It takes 2 minutes, you can do it in the shower! The best time to do it is right after your period, because your hormones will be as even as they're going to get, and regular changes in breast tissue can occur during hormone fluctuations (a lot of women have "lumpy" boobs later in the cycle).

I don't even want you guys to link to this page or credit me, because that's not what this is about (unless you think that someone can benefit from the information here).

Just post something to the effect of "I checked my boobs today, because early detection of changes in the breast might save my life. Your life matters to me, too. Go check your boobs and repost this status, tagging the women you care about." on your twitter, your facebook, your tumblr, instagram, whatever social media you have. Then tag a bunch of friends in it.

That's it... it's that simple. Let's give it a try.

Wednesday pamper and chit chat #2

This is Sheridan Jones, a gorgeous 26 year old woman who is currently not doing so well. For the last 18 months, she's endured tests after tests, misdiagnosis, ineffective treatments for diseases she doesn't even have, and all the while, it could have been prevented if doctors had recognized her illness when she first started to show symptoms.

Sheridan has Lyme Disease, something which is virtually unheard of in Australia, but well known around the world for its debilitating symptoms if left untreated. In fact, Sheridan was originally diagnosed with MS, and as her condition rapidly deteriorated, she and her family had been preparing for a life sentence of neurological symptoms.

More recently, she was referred to a Lyme specialist in WA, who diagnosed her illness and has been working with her to control her symptoms and start her on the road to recovery. Lyme disease is transmitted by Deer ticks (hence the reason it's so rare here, we generally don't have a lot of contact with Deer), and in its earliest stages can be treated with fairly simple antibiotics. In the later stages, once neurological symptoms have begun to appear, it requires far more intensive treatment, and that's where the beauty community comes in.

100 Lymelight keepers for Sheridan has been formed by her family to help raise funds for the amazingly costly treatment that Sheridan will need to have, and because we don't have specialist treatment centers for it here in Australia, she'll likely have to go overseas to be treated and get her out of the wheelchair that has become a part of her daily life.

You can help by heading over to their facebook page and hitting the like button, sharing Sheridan's story and encouraging others to become educated about Lyme Disease. Also, there is a fund set up over there for donations towards Sheridan's treatment, if you're inclined to donate, or participate in their fundraising activities.

You can find it here:

A little side note on why this cause is close to my heart; Sheridan's Grandmother is a friend of mine and I first met Sheridan when she was about 12. It breaks my heart to think of anyone going through what she's currently living with, so I'm out to raise as much awareness as I can to help Sheridan and her family.

A couple of awesome brands are having giveaways rights now. Watch my video below for links to their pages for entry!  Lots of chances to win!

A while ago, we stopped doing Wednesday pamper sessions here on the blog, because I got busy and forgot, or because I couldn't think of what to pamper myself with, or I did the pamper and forgot to take pics.

Regardless of my excuses, it's definitely time to get back into the habit of spoiling ourselves once a week, so I'm going to combine the Wednesday pamper session with my chit chat videos, since I received a really positive response to the chit chat that we had last week.

Every Wednesday you'll get a new video with a reminder to pamper yourself, and a quick run down of what I'm pampering myself with, and a little life update/chit chat. My aim is to keep the videos under 10 minutes, hopefully closer to 5 minutes each.

I've also discovered a new editing technique which allows me to give you a clickable video preview instead of the old click-through picture annotations, so please let me know if you like that too.

Welcome to Wednesday chit chats! Enjoy the first video!

I can't help myself. When I hear those magic words, all I can think about is "how fast can I get out of the house in the morning?". Yup, those magic words... 40% off all cosmetics at Priceline.

This time I didn't go too crazy, and I was pleased to find that it really was ALL cosmetics, and the cheap brands were included too (seriously, go have a look at the new Essence collection, it's beautiful).

Check out my video to see what I got, and don't forget you can still get in on the action. It's on tomorrow too! (Wednesday 12th March, 2014)

This week, I received an exciting box in the mail! It was my Sensationail starter kit, and I was so, so excited to try it out. I've tried gel polishes before, but I'd never been overly impressed with the way that the gel peeled (or I picked it) off within a few days.

As soon as I read the instructions included with my Sensationail kit, I understood why I'd been able to peel the gel away in the past. You aren't supposed to get the gel polish anywhere near your cuticles, as you then avoid the "fill line" that's created when your nails grow, and there isn't a ridge or lip to pick!

So... what was in my box? It's kind of amazing, actually.

I have a towel, some media info (on the card in the top RH corner), The starter kit, containing their pro 3060 LED lamp, and everything I need to get started and do a few manis, the gel removal kit, containing polish remover and nail wraps, a full size gel polish colour (as well as the one that came with the starter kit) and their cool little gel removal tool, which looks kind of like a shovel, but fits perfectly to the curve of your nail.
The lamp is really cool, and there are some long term bonuses to this. Sensationail (so I have been told) guarantee that their LED bulbs never burn out, and it's powered by socket, so no battery hassles, ever.

I am thrilled with my results, as I'll show you in the video below.

Here's how you can get involved: I'm using my Sensationail gel mani set to help me to grow my nails! You can document your Sensationail growth journey too, by following me on Instagram (@katysbeautysecrets) and using the hashtags #kbsensationail or #katynailchallenge!

Sensationail products are available at Priceline, Woolworths, Terry White Chemists and Chemmart.

Just a quick vid to have a bit of a chat and let you all know why my blogging/videos have been so slow lately.

I'm back into the swing of things now, and I have a few videos in the works for the rest of this week.

I've been totally slack over the last couple of weeks, and there are some legit reasons for it, but I needed to let you guys all know about Boe Beauty's awesome February giveaway!

The theme is Red, and you can win a selection of their awesome red products, which I'll do a video about over the weekend.

Boe are one of my favourite brands, and at $2 a piece for their awesome range, you cannot go wrong. I love their matte lipsticks and lip creams, and their shiny, shimmery glosses are to die for. You can find their entire range at BigW stores nationally, or head over to their FACEBOOK PAGE for your chance to win!

The giveaway ends today so make sure you get straight on it!

I'm going to let my pictures speak for themselves in this post. When I took these photos, I wasn't sure how to feel about it. Should I be proud of my collection, or ashamed that I have so much? Either way, it is what it is, and I use lots of different products regularly. I'm sure I'll get through all of it eventually.

The trolley comes from Officeworks, and it costs around $40. I bought it about a year ago, so prices may have changed, but I know they still have it in rainbow, clear and black, in a 10 drawer upright, and also a wider, lower version that has (I think) 8 drawers.

In the pictures below, I'm working from the bottom drawer to the top drawer, and then a bit of a look at what stays on the top of the trolley. Generally, it's just whatever I'm working on at any given time. You can see that I have a few boe beauty products on there for their February promo right now, which I'll talk about in tomorrow's post.

I'll caption each drawer with a rough rundown of what's in it. No, I didn't post lip products twice, I actually had to separate them into gloss products and lipstick products because I had so many. I feel like I need to clarify that this post is not about showing off my makeup collection, it really is all just to show you guys how I store it. This post was requested by Elizabeth, and I was feeling like blogging, so here we are!

If you guys have any other requests, feel free to leave them in the comments, or on my FACEBOOK PAGE
My samples drawer. Things I haven't used yet.

Today I received my Lust Have It box for February, and I must say, I was even more impressed than usual.

As you guys know, I recently started using henna, and the picture here is the result of the beautiful red colour that I used.

I've been dyeing my hair red for a couple of years now, and I do like it, but something has prompted me to want a change, and it made me think about a phenomenon that affects many, many women.

How often have you changed your hair after the end of a relationship, or some other stressful event?

My usual urge is to cut it all off, but this time, I'm definitely going to restrain that urge and keep my length, although I am in need of a trim, so I will probably do that. I'm planning a trip to Lush to pick up some Caca Noir, to bring my hair back to dark.

I do love my hair when it's dark, as it provides a lovely contrast to my pale complexion, and allows me more freedom with my makeup. You can expect to see a video soon of my Caca Noir experience.

So why do we often change our hair when things in our lives change drastically? I'm actually not sure. Maybe it's from the 40's, when it was a show of feminine strength to "wash that man right out of my hair"? Maybe it's just a makeover always makes us feel a bit better and gives us more confidence. Maybe it's a way to regain control and make a decision that solely affects us as humans? Whatever it is, I am definitely amongst the group of women who feels the need to change my hair when things go awry, and I'm at a point in my life where I am certainly feeling that need. Now I just have to promise myself that I won't "go the chop" on a whim!

I know this has been an unusually introspective and philosophical post, let me know if you want more of this kind of thing, or if you just want to see reviews and tutorials!

My January Lust Have It box arrived yesterday, and I have to say, I'm quite impressed with the contents, if not with the slow delivery time (10 February is not good enough for a January box). However, I let it slide with Bellabox for 3 months before I bitched about it, so this just gets a mention this time. I should also mention that we each got an email from LHI's CEO apologizing for the delayed box and explaining some things that are happenening at LHIHQ, so I'm quite impressed with that.

So...what's in the box? Watch the video below for more! Don't forget you can get $5 off your first LHI box, simply by clicking through the Lust Have It image on the right hand side of this post, or going to and using the code "KATY" in your cart!

2014 has already had its ups and downs, so I figured it was time for a Kitstagram post.

First up, my Australia day evening was spent with my beautiful boys on a beach in Mount Eliza, watching the fireworks go off in Mornington, Melbourne and Geelong simultaneously.

It made me rethink how grateful I am to live in such a beautiful place, surrounded by my loved ones.

Next is this cake. I made it.

We had a BBQ to celebrate the birthdays of 4 friends (including myself) who all have birthdays within a 2 week period.

I just loved the idea of a rainbow cake, and it's the first one I've ever made. I think it turned out pretty well.

I've decided I need to take care of myself better this year, so a nice bubble bath was definitely on the cards.

I mixed up a couple of different Lush products and soaked away my cares in this lovely, rose-scented bath.
Next up, a care package from RPR, personally custom-picked for my hair.

I absolutely LOVE these products so far, and you guys can look forward to reviews really soon.

The best part is the Champagne Cocktail scent and pink hue of the shampoo and conditioner.

Another awesome thing was the arrival of my Naked 3 palette with the right colours!

I've reviewed the fake one that I bought pre-release (with alternate colours) on my YouTube channel, and it was really nice, but I have to admit to favouring every single colour in this one.

Boe beauty have released a new giveway on their Facebook page, just for Valentines Day.

You can win a Red pack for yourself just by sharing a picture on your facebook timeline!

Check out Boe beauty on facebook for more info.

Last of all, this awful flu that I had.

I was really sick for a little while, and could barely drag myself out of bed. It was not much fun at all.

I am over the worst of it now, and heading to Sydney for my birthday, so that should be fun.

What have you guys been up to in 2014? Let me know in the comments below or follow me on Instagram @katysbeautysecrets for all the latest!

My fine, wavy/curly hair is always really thirsty. Years of chemically treating it have sucked the life out of it and left me with hair that's often a little uncontrollable, frizzy and not particularly appealing to look at.

I do try not to heat style it, and as you guys know from reading my blog, I no longer use chemical dyes, instead choosing to use henna on my locks for extra conditioning goodness with my colour.

In addition to the henna treatments, I do find that my hair needs some TLC, and so I have discovered Lush's amazing, chai-scented treatment and hair moisturiser, H'suan Wen Hua. It translates roughly to God of hair, and I can totally get behind anything that might make my hair remotely goddess-like.

In this first picture is my hair's "before". You can see it's quite flyaway, frizzy and in generally yukky condition.

The way to use H'suan Wen Hua is to plaster it onto your dry hair, clip it up and leave it for 20 minutes, then shampoo it out, use conditioner if you need to.

So that's what I did. I really slathered it on and made it a bit of a luxury bath for my hair, then clipped it up and wandered off to watch one of my favourite TV shows for half an hour, then I washed it out, using my usual tiny speck of conditioner.

One of the things I noticed immediately about it is that the chai scent stays with your hair for days afterwards, even if you use a scented shampoo and conditioner. That's something that I love about it, but definitely something to consider if Chai isn't really on your "love" list of scents.

As for the effect on my hair, I absolutely love it. My hair is soft, shiny, more manageable, and generally looks much nicer, even if I don't do anything to it. It's definitely a product that I'll buy over and over again.

At just under 20 dollars, I don't feel like it's a massive investment. Even with the amount that I used on my head the first time, there will be enough or 4 or 5 more treatments (let's call it 5 and say that it's $4 a go) and I would be paying at least 3 times that amount in a salon for a treatment that is, in my opinion, less effective.

Make sure you ask for a sample of H'suan Wen Hua next time you're at Lush, and I almost guarantee you'll want to buy it immediately. It's one of those "wow" products that is truly amazing.

Available from Lush stores worldwide, and

I always love it when OPI make new releases, and the latest 2 collections have me particularly excited.

Gwen Stefani (from No Doubt) has lent her name and style to a gorgeous collection full of awesome textures and standout colours, whilst the Brazil collection showcases the brilliant colours of Carnivale.

Check out some swatches and my thoughts in the video below!

You asked, and so here it is, a short video with some thoughts about the products that I bought in my last Daiso haul!

This week, I filmed a few videos ahead of time for you, so I have a couple of different things coming out over the next few days.

Today's video is a really simple and basic look, using primarily products from boe beauty's range of $2 cosmetics (because you guys asked for it!).

Check out the video below and don't forget to click through and subscribe at the end. It's free! Also, it will keep you up to date with my videos as they go live.

First, let me start this off with the same disclaimer most bloggers/vloggers need to issue at the beginning of any collection post. This post is not intended for bragging purposes. The contents of my soap collection were amassed over a period of time and either made myself, bought with my own money or gifted to me by family members for Christmas.

I have a strange (or not so strange, you let me know in the comments) addiction. I love to collect soap and bath products, and I thought it might be fun to show you my collection of soaps, just for shits and giggles.

So if you feel like checking out the different kinds of soap that I've collected and where I get it from, just watch the video below!
